    • Broderbund WFT Vol. 5, Ed. 1, Tree #3683, Date of Import: 3 May 1997 Ref: Colony of North Carolina, 1765-1775 Abstracts of Land Patents, 8809, pg 140 Valentine VANHOSE, July 25, 1774, 100 acres in Anson, SW of Pee Dee on David's Creek joining the bank of the Thoroughfare and both sides of Long Island. (Indexed by Abstract # and page). Valentine, age 82 and Matilda, age 58 were alive at time of 1850 US Census living in Johnson Co.,Tn. See Jo -5-68. He settled around Red Boiling Springs Macon County Tennessee Vol A Page 86 no. 1191 State of North Carolina: To all to whom these presents shall come greetings, Know ye: that we for and in consideration of the sum of fifty shillings for every hundred acres hereby granted, paid into our treasury by Valentine Vanhooser have given and granted and by these presents do give and grant unto the said Valentine Vanhooser a tract of land containing one hundred acres lying and being in our County of Washington on a branch of Cobbs Creek beginning at a lynnwood at the head of a spring running north seventy one degrees west one hundred & twelve poles to a black oak thence north thirteen degrees west sixty two poles to a white oak thence north thirty five degrees west fifty seven poles to a black oak on the side of a hill thence north eighty six poles to a stake, thence south fifty nine degrees east one hundred seventy five poles to a white oak corner to Moses Runnels, thence south one hundred sixteen poles to a stake by the creek, thence east twenty poles to a white oak, thence south thirty one poles to the beginning--as by the plat hereto annexed doth appear: together with all woods, waters, mines, minerals hereditaments and appurtinances to the said land belonging or appertaining: To hold to the said Valentine Vanhooser his heirs and assigns forever yielding and paying to us such sums of money yearly or otherwise as our General Assembly from time to time may direct provided always that the said Valentine Vanhooser shall cause this grant to be registered in the Register's office of our said County of Washington within twelve months from the date hereof otherwise the same shall be void and of no effect In testimony whereof we have caused these our letters to be made patent and our Great Seal to be hereunto affixed Witness Richard Dobbs Spaight, Esquire our Governor, Capyain, General and Commander in Chief at Raleigh the fourth day of November in the twentieth year of our independence and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety five. Vol A Pg 468 This indenture made the tenth of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and four between George Perkins of the County of Carter and State of Tennessee of the one part and Valintine Vanhooser of the county aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said George Perkins for and in consideration of the sum of five hundred dollars to him in hand paid before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof doth hereby acknowledge himself therewith fully satisfied contented & paid doth give grant bargain sell convey and confirm unto the said Valintine Vanhooser his heirs and assigns foreverforever a certain tract of land lying and being in the county aforesaid on the south fork of Cobbs Creek waters of Watauga River Beginning at a white oak a little branch running east one hundred poles crossing a branch to a red oak, then south one hundred sixty poles crossing a branch to a white oak there then east one hundred poles to a stake then north one hundred sixty poles to the beginning containing one hundred acres of land be the same more or less conveyed by John Pevehouse to George Perkins. Together with all the rights privileges and appurtenances thereunto belonging to have and to hold the said bargained premises unto the said Valintine Vanhooser his heirs executors and administrators & assigns forever with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging to the said George Perkins for myself my heirs executors & Administrators & assigns do by these presents forever warrant and defend the above named tract of land as above described unto the said Valintine Vanhooser from the claim of any person whatsoever as a free estate in fee simple in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and date above written.
